Okay, fellow moms and dads, I need some help here. My almost 5 year old boy used to be really good about aiming into the toilet. I rarely had a mess to clean up. But lately, I've been noticing that there has been some over-shooting. And it's getting worse. Today I noticed that my toilet brush holder has rusted and left a nice rust mark on the floor. At first I was a little confused; I've had it for seven years and never had a problem with the metal bottom. Then I got a whiff and realized why it was rusting: my little boy has lost his aim.
Frankly, he's become lazy. We have a little sticker in the toilet that was supposed to encourage aiming, but I'm thinking it has lost it's novelty. He has become experienced (in his mind) and just doesn't pay attention to what he is doing.
So...
How do you get a boy who used to have great aim start paying attention again?
My mom used to put Cheerios in the toilet for my brother to aim for. Maybe that would work? :)
ReplyDeleteThe concensus of advice from my friends: Have him clean up his own mess. Cheerios was another common thread, but he is old enough to go to the bathroom on his own. I don't want to have to go toss in a Cheerio everytime he needs to go (especially since I'll soon have 2 other kids to look after!). That's part of the charm of having a potty trained child!
ReplyDeleteFrom Facebook: Mom, having a 9 year old and 4 year old boy, my best advice is (drum roll) .... Explain, nicely and sternly that you are not going to let him be lazy any longer, that you know he can aim and potty, mess-free.... And that, after this warning, he will be cleaning ALL lazy-aiming messes. My boys kicked into high gear after having to get on their hands and knees one too many times to clean, especially when moms 'discovery' was made hours after the fact and they were pulled from play time to clean pee! (obviously make sure he has gloves on, washes his hands good and is supervised during clean up ... He wont reallllly clean it all at his age, but a point WILL be driven home!) ..., worked in The Niles home anyway :)
